Franchise Application Process
This application process typically takes five to seven weeks to complete.
Stage One: Getting Started
1. Stage One starts by requesting our Franchise Informtion Package by:
We will send you our Franchise Information Package by email and follow up with a phone call within a couple of days.
2. Our initial phone conversation is usually about 15 minutes and is set up to give you a quick overview of the business and answer some of your preliminary questions. During this call, we will also determine if you meet our initial criteria to begin our education process. Provided the call goes well, we will send you a link to our online Confidential Application Form (CAF).
3. Within 2-3 business days, we ask that you complete our online CAF and email an updated resume to: franchiseinfo@retireathome.com.
4. Our Selection Committee will review your resume and CAF to determine if you meet our selection criteria. If approved, we will open an official application file for you allowing you to move to the next stage of our process.
Stage Two: Online Presentation
5. You will be required to complete our first Profile Assessment. This assessment helps us determine your strengths and weaknesses in certain areas and is used to help understand where our support will be best used if the approval is granted.
6. Your second phone interview will be scheduled following receipt of the assessment. The goal of this interview is to further qualify you for our system by asking detailed questions about your work history and life experiences. We will also conduct our online presentation which will provide you with a good understanding of the operations of a Retire-At-Home™ franchise.
Stage Three: Disclosure
7. Our Selection Committee will review your updated application for approval to the next stage of our process, called Disclosure. If approved, you will be sent a copy of our Disclosure Document which details every aspect of a Retire-At-Home franchise (including a copy of the Franchise Agreement). You will be given time to read this document and all your questions will be answered in one or two subsequent phone calls. You will also be required to complete a Franchisee Assessment Profile that helps us understand your strengths as a prospective franchisee in our system.
8. Once all your questions are answered from the Disclosure Document, you will be asked to complete our second test, called a Self-Assessment Questionnaire. Questions on this test relate to areas such as business acumen, personal organization, family support, and other important characteristics we have determined for our business.
9. Once the test is complete, you will have a pre-board interview with a second member of our Selection Committee. The goal of this interview is to explore important questions regarding the fit between Retire-At-Home™ and your personal objectives, to review your Franchisee Assessment Profile, and to ensure the accuracy of information in your file.
Stage Four: Territory and Final Review
10. Upon approval to this next stage, we will discuss territory options with you and have you finalize your desired territory request. This stage is always fun and brings life to the idea of owning your own business! At this time, you should discuss the Franchise Agreement with a franchise lawyer (we will recommend some if needed).
11. In this stage, we will arrange calls with our current franchisees so that you can ask them questions about their business and the support we provide them. All calls with franchisees are password-protected to help protect their time. They are pleased to speak with you, but only once you have passed the Application Process to this Stage.
12. An Deposit Agreement will be sent to you. You must sign and return this agreement with a refundable deposit before the Discovery Day visit. This payment will hold your territory for 20 business days while you finalize the Application process.
Stage Five: Discovery Day
13. You will be invited for Discovery Day in Ottawa. We will open our doors to you and take the entire day to get to know you in person. You will have a chance to meet our entire team and review our training materials and operations manuals. This is always a great day!
Stage Six: Final Approval
14. The Selection Committee will convene, at your request, within a few days of your Discovery Day to consider whether to grant your application (and requested territory) final approval. Every aspect of your written and verbal communication with us is analyzed.
Stage Seven: Closing
13. Following Final Approval by the Selection Committee, you will complete all the steps necessary for you to complete the Franchise Agreement. These steps may include a final review by your legal counsel, incorporation of your company, arranging your personal finances, etc. We will continue to support you through these final stages.
After Closing
1. Once the Franchise Agreement has been executed, the countdown begins! Training will begin within approximately four to six weeks. The first two weeks of training will occur at the Head Office, in Ottawa, where you will be trained by our Business Development Team. You will gain hands-on experience in operating a home health care service by working with our home health care experts and conducting home visits with actual clients.
2. Our Business Development Team will then visit you for five business days of training at your office. During this time, we will begin to provide hands-on support in hiring the first few employees and set out your 12 month business development plan!
3. Once you officially begin servicing clients, our Business Development Team will provide additional ongoing support and you through our 4-stage business development plan.
