Invite You to The Canadian Centre for Activity and Aging’s
Home Support Exercise Program (HSEP) Training for Care Providers

What is HSEP?

HSEP is an evidence-based exercise program developed for frail, homebound older adults at risk of further functional decline. Seniors who want to maintain or improve their functional mobility and do not consider themselves frail or isolated would also benefit from regular participation in this program. HSEP consists of 10 simple, yet progressive, exercises. If done regularly, these exercises will help maintain or improve functional mobility, endurance, lower extremity strength, and confidence in performing daily activities without falling.  After completing the 4-hour session, seniors’ care workers will be certified to teach and be able to offer practical HSEP support to eligible older adults.

Frailty is the result of inactivity – not aging

HSEP distinctively combats the prevalent ageist thinking which negatively associates aging with physical decline and dependency; that is, learned helplessness. HSEP trained community care workers report

a) benefits from the positive interaction and engagement among clients; and,
b) increases in their clients’ energy levels and endurance.

HSEP intervention enables seniors to remain independent in their homes longer and participate more fully in community life!
