Retire-At-Home Promotes Workplace Safety at Rob Ellis Event
April 29th, 2009 – As part of Workplace Safety Week, the Ottawa Catholic School Board and its community partners are hosting an event to promote Workplace Safety among students.
The event is hosted by Rob Ellis. Since the death of his son David Ellis in 1999, Rob Ellis has become an outspoken advocate for workplace safety. Through the creation of Our Youth At Work, Rob Ellis has developed international partnerships with companies dedicated to protecting young workers on the job.
Rob Ellis' work with young people, parents and businesses has been widely publicized across Canada and he has been invited to participate in a number of international events as a keynote speaker.who became an advocate of workplace safety several years ago after his son David Ellis lost his life on his second day at work. In memory of David Ellis, Mr. Rob Ellis has dedicated his life to make Ontario a safer place to work.
Retire-At-Home was a proud participant in this event with the Catholic School Board, sending 5 members of staff to speak at two different high schools about workplace safety. The event started with a webcast of Rob Ellis telling the tragic story of his son David Ellis, and encouraging students to think safe when entering into the workforce. Hundreds of students attended the event at each school, and dozens of questions on worplace safety were fielded by employers such as Retire-At-Home.
As an accredited home health care organization that makes workplace safety a priority, Retire-At-Home was encouraged by the overwhelming participation by the students in the audience and by the general level of interest in workplace safety.
