Irene Martin Receives the Businesswoman of the Year Award

Ottawa, Ontario - March 28, 2006 - The Ottawa Citizen and the Women’s Business Network recognized Irene Martin, Founder and owner of Retire-At-Home Services, with the Businesswoman of the Year Award in the category of Entrepreneurship.

The panel of judges included high profile business leaders in the community including last year’s recipient Sheila Whyte, from Thyme and Again Creative Catering and Take Home Foods. Irene was chosen based on her demonstration of strong business skills, ability to take risks, leadership skills, and contribution to both the community and her profession.

“This is one of, if not, the most prestigious award a businesswoman can receive in Ottawa,” explained Tuan Nguyen, marketing consultant for Retire-At-Home.

Retire-At-Home provides personalized home and health care services to individuals who are dealing with health concerns that affect their independence. They empower their clients with the choice to stay at home for as long as they wish while maintaining their independence. Retire-At-Home began as a home-based business in 1994 and now employs more than 150 people and has serviced thousands of clients.

Irene is proud to have been selected as a finalist in the Businesswoman of the Year Award but she is quick to acknowledge the important role that her family plays in making Retire-At-Home a success. In addition she credits her many front-line and management employees for the solid reputation that Retire-At-Home holds in the health-care community and the community at large.

Irene founded Laughter Day, a day that promotes the benefits of laughter to the city of Ottawa. She and her staff participate and support many worthy causes in the city, such as CHEO, Parkinson’s Society, Alzheimer’s Society, and Bronson Centre.
